Counties We Serve -
Greater Houston Family Law
Kuehm Family Law represents clients in family courts across four Greater Houston counties – Harris, Fort Bend, Brazoria, and Galveston. Local court knowledge is one of the biggest advantages your lawyer can bring to your case.
Why Local Court Knowledge Matters
Texas family law is the same across all 254 counties – but local practice isn’t. Every county has:
- Its own family court judges, each with their own approach
- Local rules for filings, exchanges, mediation, and trial settings
- Local mediators who handle the bulk of settled cases
- Court culture – how aggressive, formal, or informal proceedings tend to be
- Auxiliary judges, associate judges, and magistrates who handle parts of cases
A lawyer who has tried cases in your specific county knows how to file the right motions, frame the right arguments, and pick the right mediators. That knowledge isn’t replaceable.

How We Travel
Travel & Logistics
Our office is at 1811 Bering Drive, Suite 420, Houston, TX 77017 – positioned on the southeast side, convenient to courthouses in all four counties:
- Harris County Family Law Center (downtown): 20 minutes north
- Fort Bend County (Richmond): 45 minutes west
- Brazoria County (Angleton): 45 minutes south
- Galveston County (Galveston): 45 minutes southeast
We attend hearings in person across all four counties. For consultations and most attorney-client meetings, we offer phone, video, and in-person options based on your preference.
Do you take cases outside these four counties?
Occasionally, on a case-by-case basis. Our focused practice area is Greater Houston - Harris, Fort Bend, Brazoria, and Galveston. Cases outside this footprint are evaluated for fit before we accept.
In what county should I file my divorce?
Generally, the county where you've lived for at least 90 days (with 6 months of Texas residency overall). For SAPCRs (custody cases), filing is typically in the county where the child resides.
Does the choice of county affect the outcome?
It can. Judges, local rules, and court culture vary. In jointly-filed or post-separation cases, sometimes one spouse can file first in a more favorable jurisdiction - this is one of the strategic decisions to make early.
Can I do hearings remotely?
Some hearings are held remotely (via Zoom) at the court's discretion, particularly status conferences and uncontested matters. Contested hearings and trials are typically in person.
What if I live outside Texas but need to handle a case here?
We represent out-of-state clients with Texas family law matters all the time. Most consultations and meetings can be handled by phone or video. We appear in person at all required court hearings.
